Abstract Note
This article describes the meeting in the border zone between African American tourists who have returned from the diaspora to mother Africa - specifically, to the slave dungeons of Elmina Castle - and the local Ghanaians who receive them. It raises the issue of the struggle between the African Americans and the Ghanaians over how the castles are to be interpreted and the associated issue of power, of who owns the castles.
